Arrive in SA

 

15:00   Meet with Eli at Ryneveld Lodge

 

Monday, 20 February

 

10:15   Presentation and discussion with MPhil (HE) students on Action Research, 

            research paradigms and research ethics. GG Cilliˇ Building, Room 3008

 

12:00   Lunch with Drs Chris Reddy and Hannie Menkveld

 

14:00   Presentation to and discussion with BEd IV students (60 plus) on

            Action Research and professional practice: The researcher role of the teacher.

            GG Cillie Building, Room 1028 (duration 1 hour). Hannie Menkveld will be

            your host.

 

19:00 for 19:30:  Evening dinner with Tommy Park (dean of education), Lesley le

            Grange (chair: department of curriculum studies), Cornelia Roux (professor in

            curriculum studies) and  Eli at Mama Roma, Stellenbosch Square. Eli will pick

            you up at 19:00.

 

Tuesday, 21 February

 

9:00   Lecture to and discussion with PGCE students (80) on the researcher role of the

          teacher. Prof Arend Carl, co-ordinator of the PGCE programme will be your

          host. GG Cilliˇ Building, Room 3001. Duration 50 minutes.

 

12:30  Research Colloquium with academic staff and research students in faculty staff

           room. Topic: Action research and Living Theory. Duration: 2 hours including  

           a light stand-up lunch. Chair: Prof Cornelia Roux. (Anything to prepare in

           advance, e.g. Powerpoint?)

 

14:30   Discussion with Dr Jeanette de Klerk (Dept of Education Policy Studies) on

            action research methodology for values research. Room 3029. Duration: 1 

            hour.

 

15:30   Discussion on action research and staff development with Dr Brenda

            Leibowitz and colleagues from the Centre for Teaching and Learning at their

            offices. Brenda will meet you at EliÕs office, Room 4013. Duration

           depends on the length of discussions that will take place.

 

Evening: Preparation for next dayÕs workshop

 

Wednesday, 22 February

 

9:00   Workshop on Action research and community learning at Stellenbosch Lodge

          just outside of Stellenbosch (16 participants) Workshop schedule: Starts at 9:00,

          tea at 10:30 (30 min), lunch at 13:00 (60 min.), coffee at 15:15 (15 minutes),

          workshop ends at 17:00.

 

Travel to City Lodge, Pinelands. Next two days at University of the Western Cape and fly to Bloemfontein on Saturday, 25 February.
